With the development of revised eligibility criteria, SCDMH developed a set of Access and Treatment Protocols.  SCDMH established that all clients referred to or seeking services at a SCDMH Community Mental Health Center (BCMHS) will receive an appropriate screening, either by telephone or in-person.    Screening appointments are offered as follows:

  • Routine Requests:  Within 7 working days
  • Urgent Requests: Within 2 working days
  • Emergent Requests:  Same Day
In addition to the access protocols, SCDMH established guidelines for clients who come into the BCMHS through routine requests to quickly access treatment.  After a client has been screened and determined eligible for treatment, they will receive a full Initial Clinical Assessment and their record will be opened at the BCMHS. The client and/or family will be fully informed about the treatment process at this time.  All needed clinically necessary appointments will be scheduled for the client.  The next step in treatment is developing a Plan of Care with the client and his/her family as appropriate.  The Plan of Care details the services that the client will receive and outlines the goals and objectives of treatment.  The Plan of Care is a document that identifies what the client can expect in treatment and how often the client can expect to be seen based on his/her clinical need.  Discharge planning does begin at the onset of treatment and is outlined on the Plan of Care.
